When a Northern Rhode Island roof is actually done
A roof that's due for full replacement usually shows more than one sign at once: three-tab shingles cupping and losing granules across a whole slope, soft spots underfoot near valleys or the chimney, and daylight or water staining showing up in the attic after a hard rain or a heavy wet snow.
Freeze-thaw cycles and ice damming at the eaves are what push a Rhode Island roof from patchable to done. Water that backs up under the shingle line every winter eventually finds its way into the decking, and once the deck is compromised, a repair is just delaying a bigger job.
Tim walks the whole roof and checks what he can see of the deck from the attic before he ever quotes a replacement. If a roof still has real life left, he says so and prices a repair instead. There's no salesman pushing a full tear-off on a roof that doesn't need one.

The tear-off, in the order it actually happens
Tim measures the roof himself and hands the homeowner a written price before a crew is scheduled. No estimator, no call center, and the price on the page is the price on the invoice.
On job day the crew tarps the yard, landscaping and siding first, then strips the old roof down to bare decking. Every sheet gets inspected as it's exposed. Rotted or delaminated plywood is cut out and replaced right there, not shingled over.
With the deck sound, six feet of ice and water shield goes up from the eaves and into the valleys for real ice-dam protection, then synthetic underlayment across the whole field to dry the roof in. New step flashing goes in at every chimney and dormer before the architectural shingles go on, finished with a ridge vent so the attic can breathe.
Cleanup is a magnet sweep of the yard and driveway for nails and debris, the same day the roof goes on. Crews are typically on site early and the whole job, tear-off through cleanup, is done before dark.
Chapter 03
What the warranty covers once the crew is gone
Every roof replacement carries Tim's own 15-year labor warranty on top of the shingle manufacturer's material warranty. If the workmanship isn't right, Tim comes back and fixes it himself.
After a replacement, keep an eye on gutters for granule buildup in the first year, any new staining on ceilings after storms, and ice forming at the eaves in winter, since attic ventilation and insulation matter as much as the shingles themselves for keeping ice dams from forming again.
