Chapter 01
Why vinyl siding fades, cracks, and lets cold in
Standard vinyl siding is built to move. Every panel has slotted holes at the nail line so it can expand and contract as the temperature swings, and a Rhode Island winter puts a wide swing on that same panel within a single day. When a panel gets nailed too tight, it cannot move the way it was designed to, and it buckles or cracks the first hard freeze it goes through.
Sun does its own damage over the years. Cheaper vinyl fades unevenly, especially on a south facing wall, until one side of the house is visibly a different shade than the other. Plain vinyl with nothing behind it does very little to stop cold air from moving against the sheathing, so rooms on that side of the house stay colder than the rest.
A homeowner in Cumberland ran into all three problems at once: faded, cracked siding and a house that would not hold its heat. That is a vinyl siding job that is overdue, not one that needs patching.

Standard vinyl, insulated vinyl, and how Tim hangs it
Standard vinyl is a single layer of PVC panel. Insulated vinyl backs that same panel with rigid foam, which stiffens the panel against wind and adds a real layer of insulation against the sheathing. Tim will tell you honestly which one makes sense for your house and your budget, since not every wall needs the upgrade.
Either way, the install starts the same: house wrap goes on first, taped and lapped so water runs down and out. Then each panel is hung on the nailing strip with the fastener centered in the slot, not driven tight, so the panel can still expand and contract with the seasons instead of fighting against itself.
Trim gets the same attention. Corner posts, window and door casings, and the fascia line are wrapped in aluminum, bent and fitted on site rather than hung as generic stock pieces, so the lines around every opening actually sit flush and straight.
Chapter 03
The 15-year labor warranty and what to watch after
Tim backs the installation itself with a 15-year labor warranty, separate from whatever warranty the vinyl manufacturer puts on the material. If the workmanship fails, that is on him.
After the job, keep an eye on the corner posts and any place two pieces of trim meet. Those joints take the most seasonal movement, and a gap opening up there over a few winters is the first sign worth a call.

Full Vinyl Siding Replacement

The original siding on this Cumberland home was faded and cracked, and cold air was getting behind it. The homeowner got three quotes. Tim was the only contractor who showed up personally.
We stripped the old siding, wrapped the house, and installed new insulated vinyl with fresh trim around every window and door.
