Chapter 01
What actually fails on a Rhode Island roof
Most calls Tim gets aren't about a whole roof giving out at once. They're about the parts that fail first: granules washing off three-tab shingles until the mat underneath is bare and cupping, valleys that were woven wrong by the last crew and start rotting the decking from below, and ice dams that build at the eaves every winter and back meltwater up under the shingle line and into the ceiling.
Nor'easters and heavy wet snow are the real load a Northern Rhode Island roof carries every year, not the occasional summer storm. A roof that's fine in August can be the one letting water into a bedroom in February, because the failure was already there, just dry.
Tim looks for those specific things when he's up on a roof: granule loss, soft spots underfoot near valleys and chimneys, lifted or missing shingles at the ridge, and daylight or staining in the attic at the eaves. That's what tells him whether a roof has a few years left or needs to come off.

How Tim works a roofing job
Tim comes out and measures the roof himself, no estimator, no sales rep. He walks the whole thing, checks the decking from the attic side where he can, and hands over a written price before anything gets scheduled.
On tear-off day the crew strips the roof down to the deck and Tim inspects every sheet of plywood as it's exposed. Any rotted or delaminated decking gets cut out and replaced right there, not patched over and shingled on top of, because a soft deck under a new roof just fails again from underneath.
From there it's ice and water shield along the eaves and valleys for real ice-dam protection through the winter, synthetic underlayment across the field, new step flashing at chimneys and dormers, and architectural shingles laid to the manufacturer's pattern with a ridge vent to keep the attic breathing. Most roofs go off in the morning and back on the same day.
Chapter 03
What happens after the crew leaves
Every roof Tim installs carries his own 15-year labor warranty, on top of whatever the shingle manufacturer covers on the materials. If something about the workmanship isn't right, that's on him to fix, not a manufacturer claims line.
Watch for granules collecting in the gutters in year one, any staining on ceilings after a hard rain, and ice building at the eaves in winter even after a new roof, since ventilation and insulation upstairs matter as much as the shingles on top. None of that should happen on a job Tim did, but if it does, call 401-233-ROOF and he'll come back and look at it.

35-Square Roof Replacement in One Day
This North Smithfield ranch had a 35-square roof at the end of its life. Tim measured it himself and handed the homeowner a written price. No salesman, no pressure.
On the tear-off we found two rotted sheets of plywood caused by an improper valley weave from the last roofer. We cut out the rot, replaced the decking, and wove the new valley the right way.
