What actually fails at 2am
Most emergency calls trace back to the same handful of failures. A nor'easter lifts a run of shingles along a ridge or a rake edge, and wind-driven rain finds the gap on the next pass. A tree limb comes down and punches a hole straight through the decking. Chimney or sidewall flashing that was already tired finally pulls away from a corner and lets water run down inside the wall instead of off the roof. An ice dam backs up at the eave and pushes meltwater under the shingles and into the ceiling below.
None of those are a mystery once someone gets eyes on the roof, but at night in a storm a homeowner in Woonsocket or anywhere across Northern Rhode Island usually just sees a stain spreading on the ceiling and water finding a bucket. How Tim works an emergency call
Tim answers his own phone. There is no call center reading from a script and no dispatcher passing the job to a subcontractor. He asks a few direct questions: where the water is coming in relative to the roof lines above it, how bad the wind or storm is right now, and whether it is safe to get a ladder up yet.
The first goal is always the same: stop the water. That means a tarp, pulled tight and fastened down over the area that is actually failing, not a quick patch that lasts one more rainstorm. Once the weather clears, Tim comes back to open up the damaged section, cut out any decking that got soaked through, and find the real cause instead of just covering the symptom.
The permanent repair goes in the same way a full re-roof does: new decking where the old plywood was soft, ice and water shield tied properly into the surrounding roof, matching shingles, and flashing rebuilt at whatever corner or chimney let the water in the first time. Once the repair is finished, watch the same spot through the next couple of storms. A stain that comes back in the same place, or a soft spot that wasn't there before, means call again before it spreads.

Catch the water
A bucket or a tarp on the floor buys time. If the ceiling is bulging with trapped water, a small controlled hole through the lowest point is better than a collapse.
